Bushy Park Facilities Remain Open and are Operating as Normal. Training and matches to go ahead as planned

March 10th, 2020

To all Bushy Park Tennis & Padel Club members and visitors:

Bushy Park sports facilities in Terenure remain open and are operating as normal. The Club's fixtures and the hosting of club training will currently go ahead as planned, unless further guidance is issued by the relevant sporting governing bodies.

We would ask our members or visitors to our facilities to be mindful of current COVID-19 (coronavirus) prevention guidelines and advice that is available from the HSE online
. You may also find further information and advice in the Club. This includes official advice and guidance that we encourage all staff and visitors to follow.

The well-being of everybody in our Bushy Park community is our number one priority. We take this opportunity to remind everyone that the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (see https://www2.hse.ie/wellbeing/how-to-wash-your-hands.html), especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Other sensible measures include turning your head away from people when you sneeze, using a tissue or your sleeve and disposing of tissues quickly.

Bushy Parl Tennis & Padel Club  will continue to take guidance from the HSE and the Padel Federation of Ireland and will keep all our members and visitors up to date if the situation changes via our website and social media channels.

Kind regards,

Bushy Park Tennis & Padel Club

Bushy Park Tennis & Padel Club will remain closed from 5 pm this evening due to storm Ciara. We will update you on opening times tomorrow (Sunday), but the orange warning in place will mean the facility may not open until Sunday afternoon.

Met Eireann has issued an orange weather alert for the entire country. The warning will be in place from 5 am until 12 noon tomorrow (Sunday 9th February).

UPDATE

Issued 15:00, Friday, 7th February, by Evelyn Cusack, Head of Forecast Division and Eoin Sherlock, Head of Flood Forecast Division.

Storm Ciara is expected to pass to the north of Ireland on Sunday but the country can expect some wet and windy weather before this on Saturday. This spell of weather will bring heavy rain and strong winds, which have the potential to cause some disruption, especially in western and northern counties. The animation below displays the forecast winds for Saturday, 8th February using the Harmonie Forecast model.

As well as the heavy rain and strong winds, there is the risk of coastal and localised flooding. As we get closer to a weather event Met Éireann’s high resolution model Harmonie allows us to enhance the level of detail in our forecasts. Met Éireann has this afternoon increased the wind warning levels for Saturday to Orange for Galway, Mayo and Donegal.

IPFFEDERATION small

We are delighted to inform you that the Padel Federation of Ireland has become a Gaisce challenge partner! That means Bushy Park is now an official Partner Centre.

The Padel Federation of Ireland has been chosen as an official centre to carry out activities in relation to the President's Award in Ireland. This is great news and it means many young people will be able to do their placement in our affiliated padel clubs throughout Ireland.

Gaisce – The President’s Award is a self-development programme for young people between the ages of 15-25, which is proven* to enhance confidence and well-being through participation in personal, physical, community and team challenges. It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and realise their potential.

Gaisce is non-competitive and self-directed: participants progress along each award level (Bronze, Silver or Gold) choosing personal, physical and community activities they wish to undertake and taking part in an adventure journey also. A trained adult mentor, their President’s Award Leader (PAL), supports them throughout the process. The more time and energy participants give, the greater the reward.

Young people who complete the Gaisce programme, receive a medal and certificate signed by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. Should they progress to achieve a Gold award, Michael D. Higgins presents them with this at a special ceremony in Dublin Castle.

Gaisce is active across all 26 counties and, through the Joint Award Initiative, an innovating partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, young people living in Northern Ireland are able to achieve a Gaisce Award at any level too. Through a partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Gaisce Awards are also recognised internationally.

Since its inception in 1985, over 370,000 young people have participated in the Gaisce programme. Today, more than 25,000 young people register for the Gaisce challenge each year, pursuing the award through more than 850 organisations (Gaisce Award Partners) located right across the country. In any one year, Gaisce supports these organisations and the more than 1,200 President Award Leaders (PALs) working and volunteering in them to mentor young people through their Gaisce journey.

Challenge Areas

Gaisce celebrates the individuality of each participant and ensures while there are many pathways to achieving a Gaisce Award, each Gaisce journey is as unique and expansive as our participants determine and equally recognised.

The term "gaisce" is from the Irish language and can be translated as "achievement". The award was established by a trust deed under the patronage of the President of Ireland on 28 March 1985. In 1988 the award became part of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Association.[1] The profile of the award was raised substantially following the first award ceremonies performed by President Hillery in 1989.
